The Growth Coach, the world’s largest provider of affordable group coaching, training and workshops, gives entrepreneurs like Jessie Kwatamdia, owner of The Growth Coach in Columbia, Missouri, the chance to help fellow entrepreneurs and business leaders achieve their goals. Now, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for quality business coaching has never been higher, and The Growth Coach offers an exciting opportunity for qualified franchisees like Kwatamdia to kick off their coaching career and follow their passion.
Kwatamdia has a master’s degree in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University. Before The Growth Coach, she started her career in education and family services as a teacher, counselor and business owner. Her most recent roles have included serving as the Fundraiser and Public Relations Director for Douglas County Senior Services, Director of Philanthropy at Stephens College and Executive Director for the Greater Missouri Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“I always wanted to own a business, and my husband currently owns a decorative concrete business, so that piqued my interest,” said Kwatamdia. “As an entrepreneur, what I really wanted to do was coaching. I was already part of a group that went to coaching regularly, so it was in the back of my mind. I loved the idea of helping people grow, up and down the ladder of a business.”
When Kwatamdia was contacted by The Growth Coach team and learned about the franchise opportunity, she immediately liked the concept and felt it could be a great fit. After doing her due diligence, Kwatamdia officially started with The Growth Coach in May of 2021.
“I really appreciated the tools that were already in place, and I knew I’d be able to tap into those products and that business model,” Kwatamdia said. “The flexibility was also a big part of it; I knew I could make the business my own. I didn’t want something that was cookie-cutter. I could put my personality into it. The training and support were also a huge draw, as well as the network of all the other coaches who are there to help you.”
Unlike most business coaching franchises that focus on projects and individual coaching, The Growth Coach built a proven model of group coaching that allows franchisees to build an enviable business and leverage their time so they can reach more clients in a standard workweek. The brand’s systems generate strong results for clients and open the door to a wide range of additional project work, sales coaching and management consulting. In addition to generating results, The Growth Coach business model is designed to provide owners with attractive lifestyle benefits. With no travel required, owners can run the business from the comfort of their home or a small office, part-time or full-time, with or without employees.
When it comes to support, The Growth Coach franchisees like Kwatamdia can leverage the backing of a multi-brand, national parent company in Strategic Franchising Systems. That includes access to not only proven operating, marketing, coaching and technology systems and training, but also to a network of other franchisees who can share best practices, as well as cross-brand referrals.
So, what does a day in the life of Kwatamdia look like as a Growth Coach?
“Every day is a little different, but usually I start the day around 9 a.m., look at my emails, see what I have on my agenda and then plan out the day,” explained Kwatamdia. “Most days start with a lot of phone calls, setting up appointments and returning calls from clients. Often I will head out the door to present to a one-on-one client or group, meet with other business owners and find ways I can provide value. I recently did a six-month program with Leadership Columbia, for example, which required me to present on a different topic each week. So I would do my research, look at material and customize the presentation so I could send it to participants.”
Big picture, Kwatamdia says her focus is on growing the business in and around the Columbia and St. Louis territory. “Prospective clients are always reaching out to me via my website to ask for help, so a major part of my role is just staying open and available throughout the day,” she said. “Right now, I am a one-woman show, so I am busy all the time. I’m strategic about the types of companies I work with, and I am hoping to hire an office manager so I can focus on coaching.”
Overall, Kwatamdia says her favorite part of being a Growth Coach franchisee is connecting with business owners on a daily basis.
“They’ll call me and tell me they had a situation that came up and they used one of the strategies that I taught them, and it worked,” Kwatamdia said. “They just want to tell me that they believe in what I'm doing and are so thankful for the help. Yes, we get paid. But seeing others grow and reach their potential is the most rewarding part of the business, especially because we get to be a part of a network of other Growth Coach franchisees and colleagues who are doing the same thing for others around the country.”
